SEO for Your Videos On YouTube
For anyone unfamiliar with SEO, it stands for Search Engine Optimization. This is a term that refers to techniques that help your online content rank highly in search engine results pages (SERPs) on Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. The higher up in the search engine pages your content ranks, the more likely it is that people will find and click through to your content.
SEO is usually talked about in relation to blogging and website development, but the same methods can be used to optimize your YouTube videos and get more people watching them. You may think this sounds complicated and technical, but in fact, it is really simple and only requires you to follow some simple steps that I describe below ;
This the best part of your youtube video. Whenever you upload a video to YouTube, you need to enter a video title. This is a vital part of getting more views, as it is this that will help people to find your video. Many people don’t bother entering a title at all, so they end up with a video titled something like ‘Mov.21012011.mp4′ or whatever default name your video is assigned. This obviously makes it incredibly hard for people to find your video, as they need to specifically know your video title to find it.
Let's say your video is about an animal. The You have to to include as many keywords in your title as you can that relate to the subject matter of your video.Tools such as ‘Tubebuddy' can help you identify which keywords will work most effectively.
When people search for a video, either directly on YouTube or via a search engine, a proper title will help to identify your video as being the one that they are after.
Most people do not fill this part because they feel that the title speaks for itself, but a proper description can help to get more views on YouTube! As we know there is no search engine that finds what keyword in the video so be sure that you fill the best description for your video include all keywords you want to be. It will not only give an idea about your video but also give some exposure to your video.
Also, if you have your own website or social media pages and refer to exterior sites (affiliate) within your video, you may want to include a link here. I always leave a link back to my blog in the description, so if people want to learn more they can click through to my site and a link to another site that contains affiliate will also get some extra earning. This is a good way to improve your website SEO, but that is a different subject.
If you see very deeply then you will find that Tags are those elements that attract search engine spider and also your video will show in the related video. So you need to enter a series of tags when uploading your video. These are simply words that refer to your video content, so make sure that you include as many keywords that you can. Again, I strongly recommend that use Tubebuddy and it will show you the best tags for your video and after using it you will see your video viewership boost drastically.
Annotations across videos
You know those little text bubbles that you see popping up on people’s videos with text that say things like “Thumbs Up!” or “Subscribe!”? Those are called YouTube annotations and they are a fantastic way to increase your video views. Through annotations, you can link from one video to another, as well as to playlists of your videos, your channel and more, compelling your viewers to watch more of your videos.
Annotations are a great way to point your viewers in the direction of watching your other videos, in order to drive up your view count across your entire channel.
A lot of YouTube uploader don’t realize that playlists are a great way to increase your video views. A playlist is a list, or group, of videos that will play in order, one video after another after another. The good thing about playlists is that they come up separately in search results. That means, if you’ve got a video about frogs or a playlist about animals that includes the frog video, viewers will have more opportunities when searching to find your video. They may choose to watch your playlist, or they may choose to watch your frog video.
Additionally, because playlists play your videos automatically one after the another when viewers watch playlists they typically watch more of your videos, which is great for increasing the views across your channel. Playlists can also be embedded, so viewers can watch all your videos together on your blog or website.
Subscribers are, the best way to get more views on your videos. After all, the people that subscribe to you are your fan base and they are ready and waiting for you to upload new videos so that they can check them out. The more subscribers that you’ve got, the more views you will get within the first few days, or even hours, of uploading your video. When someone subscribes to you, all of your new videos will show up on their homepage and they may even subscribe to be notified by email when you upload something new to the video site.
How do you get new subscribers? Aside from uploading great content on a regular basis, ask! A lot of viewers aren’t thinking about subscribing to anyone at all, but if an annotation pops up on the screen reminding them to subscribe or, better yet, if you ask them yourself in your video, they will be more likely to click through to subscribe to your future videos.
Market Your Video
These above simple techniques all help to get your video found more easily. But these aren’t the only things that you can do to get more views on YouTube. To actively encourage people to go and view your video, you must market them!
Social media is one of the best marketing tools available online, and the best bit is that it’s completely free! Not only does it let you connect with your friends online, but it allows you to connect with people from all around the world with similar interests. In today’s world, we can talk to someone living in the USA about the latest cinema releases, or someone from the India about my favourite books.
Whatever your video is about, there will be people out there who want to watch it. You just need to go and find them! Post a link to your video on your Facebook page, Twitter and Google+ profile. Join LinkedIn groups, Facebook groups, etc. Talk to people about your video and watch similar videos from others. The point is, get involved!
As well as social media, there are many websites and forums online where you can go to find like-minded people. Get involved within these communities, leave comments, answer people's questions, follow other people, etc. All this helps to build a community, who will be more likely to go and watch your videos.
Use Your Blog
If you have your own website or blog, then use it to market your video. You can place links to your YouTube channel encouraging people to subscribe, and you can insert your videos into your web pages and blog posts. This way, there is more chance for your videos to be seen as they will be both on YouTube and your own site.
